“We need your help, Annie.” 

The girl looked up immediately. She stared at them as if he had just sprout another head. 

Astor gave a half smile before continuing. “I know you must be thinking why in the world would I offer my assistance the people who just kidnapped me. But understand this, we are on your side. No- rather, we are on the side of your parents. Whether you should follow in their footsteps is your choice. They were powerful, powerful magicians who used their power to aid those in need. Now it is your chance to do the same.” 

He paused and gave one last meaningful look at the girl sitting on the bed. “Please seriously consider this offer.” 

And with that, the tall gangly man walked out of the room, closing the door with a soft click.
